British runner Jamie Ramsay completes trek from Vancouver to Argentina

British adventure runner Jamie Ramsay completed a nearly 17,000-kilometre trek from Vancouver to Argentina’s capital, Buenos Aires, just in time for New Year’s Eve.

The 17-month journey raised approximately $34,000 for charities CALM, WaterAid and Macmillan.

“I’ve always loved running and I’ve always loved travelling,” Ramsay told Sky News. “I just had something inside of me that wanted to go out and see if I could do something special.”

According to Ramsay’s blog, the journey consisted of 367 running days, with a one-month break for his sister’s wedding, 17 pairs of running shoes, and 14 countries. The run spanned 16,538 kilometres.

During the final stretch, Ramsay ran 27 straight days averaging around 56 kilometres per day in order to make it to his destination by the end of 2015.

Ramsay is now back in England where he will be running from Heathrow Airport to Central London beginning on Jan. 10.
